Religious Education

Intent
At Luton Primary School, we are committed to creating well-rounded, reflective pupils who are life-long learners by giving them access to a broad and balanced RE curriculum. We aim to provide pupils with a comprehensive understanding of various religions and worldviews, fostering respect, tolerance, empathy, and critical thinking. The curriculum is designed to help pupils explore big questions about life, beliefs, and values, enabling them to make sense of religion and reflect on their own ideas and ways of living. We also recognise the significant contribution RE has to make to the promotion of British values.
Key aspects of the RE curriculum intent include:
1. Knowledge and Understanding: The curriculum aims to equip students with systematic knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews. This includes Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism and Sikhism. We also cover aspect of different World views.
2. Critical Thinking and Enquiry: Pupils are encouraged to be curious and ask challenging questions about religion, belief, values, and human life. The curriculum promotes critical thinking and the ability to express their own ideas in response to the material they engage with
3. Cultural Awareness and Empathy: The curriculum fosters an appreciation of the diversity of Luton Primary including religious beliefs and practices. It encourages pupils to develop empathy and respect for each other and the wider World and to understand the impact of religion on individuals and communities including our own.
4. Personal Reflection and Development: The curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to reflect on their own beliefs and values. It supports their personal development by helping them to consider their own identity and place within our Luton community and the wider world. At Luton Primary we strive to help our young people understand what it means to be human, encouraging empathy, generosity and compassion.
5. Inclusivity and Accessibility: Recognizing that learning is a journey with different starting points and ways of learning, the curriculum is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all pupils. It aims to provide additional or different opportunities to ensure all pupils can succeed
6. Engagement and Enjoyment: The curriculum seeks to foster a passion for learning about religions and worldviews by creating engaging and enriching learning experiences. This includes the use of high-quality resources, visits, visitors and artefacts to deepen pupils understanding
By integrating these elements, the RE curriculum aims to create well informed and tolerant individuals who are ready to engage with the multi-cultural world in which they find themselves.
