PE

Intent
The PE curriculum at Luton primary school aims to inspire all pupils to lead healthy, active lives and to develop a lifelong love for physical activity. We believe that physical education is essential for the holistic development of our pupils, fostering their physical, mental, and social well-being. We aim to introduce pupils to engage in a range of new and existing sports enhancing their cultural capital. The curriculum at Luton Primary begins with basic movement skills and builds to more complex skills and activities becoming sport specific as pupils progress through the school.
Goals:
· Physical Development: Ensure that all pupils develop fundamental movement skills, including agility, balance, coordination, and strength. They will participate in a variety of physical activities that promote fitness and overall health.
· Skill Acquisition: Provide pupils with the opportunity to learn and refine skills in different sports and physical activities. They will gain confidence, competence and resilience in a range of physical pursuits and develop a range of core skills including finding space, balance, co-ordination and agility.
· Healthy Lifestyle: Educate pupils about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, mental and physical rest and well-being. They will understand the benefits of an active lifestyle and how to make healthy choices.
· Teamwork and Cooperation: Foster a sense of teamwork, cooperation, communication and fair play. Pupils will learn to work collaboratively, respect others, develop leadership and build positive social skills through team sports and group activities. Pupils will acquire an understanding of rules and strategies within a variety of games, developing a more complex application as they progress through the school.
· Personal Growth: Encourage pupils to set personal goals, challenge themselves, and build resilience. They will develop a positive attitude towards physical activity and learn to persevere in the face of challenges. We encourage our pupils to be reflective and have opportunities to analyse both technique and performance.
