Computing

Intent
The computing curriculum at our primary school aims to equip pupils with the essential skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world. We believe that a strong foundation in computing will empower our pupils to be confident, creative, and responsible digital citizens. Our computing curriculum is designed to empower pupils to become confident, safe, and responsible users of technology. We provide a clear, progressive sequence of learning that builds on prior knowledge and deepens understanding across each year group.
Our ambition is to nurture curious, resilient learners who can apply their computing knowledge purposefully across the curriculum and in real-world contexts. The curriculum reflects the needs of our diverse school community, ensuring that all pupils, regardless of background or starting point, have equal access to opportunities that will equip them for the digital future.
Goals:
- Digital Literacy: Ensure that all pupils become proficient in using technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly. They will learn to navigate the digital world with confidence and understand the importance of online safety and digital etiquette.
- Computational Thinking: Develop pupils' problem-solving skills through the principles of computational thinking. This includes understanding algorithms, pattern recognition, abstraction, and decomposition.
- Programming Skills: Introduce pupils to the basics of programming, enabling them to create simple programs and understand the logic behind coding. They will use age-appropriate programming languages and tools to develop their skills.
- Creative Use of Technology: Encourage pupils to use technology creatively to express their ideas and solve real-world problems. This includes using multimedia tools, digital art, and other creative applications.
- Understanding Technology: Provide pupils with a fundamental understanding of how technology works, including hardware, software, and networks. They will learn about the components of computers and how they interact to perform tasks.
Through high expectations, rich learning experiences, and a strong emphasis on safety and creativity, we aim to develop digitally literate learners ready for life in modern Britain.
